Finding Certainty in Confusion
For most of us, our 10s and 20s are full of confusion. Parents are dictating what they want you to do/be, elderly members of the society are projecting their insecurities on us, and everyone seemingly has a grand plan for our lives.
And to make matters worse, the reality is that we can’t have it all figured out.
So how do we find certainty in this entropy called the world?
Calm. There is that peace that comes with being calm in a world that is filled with disorganisation. And even when you feel like you need to rush to your destination, take a moment to pause, breathe in and calm down.
Give Up. A famous philosopher said that “T’oba foh, o ti fuck up” and while I totally agree with him, it is wise to know when something isn’t working in this journey of life and when to try another approach to things or quit totally.
Change Your Perspective. The world does not start and end in Nigeria. This is a global village. Understand that what is acceptable in Lagos might not be acceptable in Calabar or California or wherever, and know when to adjust to new information.
Know Yourself. How can you expect to understand this entropy if you don’t understand yourself?
Drink Water. Cause why not?
Of course, this is not an exhaustive list, even I am still trying to find my place in this planet and I hope you find yours too.
I want you to know that in spite of all the trouble the world brings (and Nigeria in particular), I am grateful that you are alive and reading this today. And I know even if you haven't figured it out, every single day that you wake up and show up to do the work brings you closer to greatness. I am rooting for you and I am looking forward to your wins.
PS: Shoutout to Chinaza and Tabitha. Thank you for shining your light on the world and showing that loving your neighbor is the right thing. And even when it gets too hard, I want you to keep trying.
